My road to wealth manager began in the financial services department of a bank, where I discovered I truly enjoyed serving clients, addressing their needs, and helping them through problem-solving. I quickly moved up the ranks to management, and just as quickly realized I was better suited to working with clients than managing branch operations and personnel.
In 1994, I moved into a client-facing role as a financial advisor. I was constantly upgrading my skills and credentials, completing the Certified Financial Planner designation in 2001, and then the Financial Management Advisor designation in 2003. I continue to hold these designations in good standing, which means taking continuing education courses and programs to stay current and well-versed on the industry, products, and compliance practices.
All this ensures I continue to develop the experience, knowledge, and tools at my disposal to assist you and your family.
I am actively involved in my community, both locally and globally. Through my church, I have had the privilege to participate in two mission trips. The first was to Cambodia in 2014, where we learned first-hand of the atrocities of Pol Pot and his supporters. However, more importantly, we discovered the remarkable recovery and ongoing work to rebuild the country and its people, and to restore respect, trust, and faith in the future. The second mission was to northern Mexico in March 2016, in which 17 of us built a home for a family in two days.
I continue my efforts through our church and through Habitat for Humanity Southern Alberta. I participate in local builds in Calgary and help fundraise to support Habitat’s ongoing efforts to provide homes for families in need and break the cycle of poverty.
Originally from Toronto, I now call Calgary home. My wife Sue and I enjoy hiking, running (well, actually Sue is the runner now), and road cycling in addition to camping throughout Alberta and B.C. I have two children from my first marriage, Meghan and Wynne (both in postsecondary studies), and four amazing grandkids, Hayden, Mallory, Gabe, and Jillian, from Sue’s two children. Rounding out our family is Briggs, our chocolate lab. And yes, they’re all the apples of our eyes!
